“Foggy Gap Ghost Horses” 2015, Acrylic + Casein on Canvas

A woman who owns horses goes where she wants ~
Lakota Sioux saying

I‘ve finished this canvas and am onto the next few.
My apologies I’ve been absent from here. Health challenges have forced me to be choosy about how I spend my time. I have been painting. The expression of emotion thru painting is healing.
I have used it for many years to express whatever needs to emerge.
The results can be surprising!

Lately it has been horses.
Horse represents many things to many cultures.
Typically Horse represents strength, freedom, bravery, patience, quickness and the ability to travel between worlds.
I suppose it’s important to know what Horse represents to me since it is I who paints them.

As they have always been in my life in one way or the other,
their meaning depended upon life at the time.
Today they represent more what I cannot do than what I can.

I have been watching for Horse.
I want to ride again. A gentle mare that won’t toss me on the ground.

In the meantime, I will paint them… Might be wise!!

  4. My best dreams are of flying, or finding a horse that will let me ride bareback. Your Foggy Gap Horses will hopefully star in my dreams tonight.

    1. ĽAdelaide says:

Sorry to read of your health issues – just doesn’t end. But so happy that you can find joy and strength in letting your creative muse go and take you to unseen places. Horses, wonderful – it is time for you to find the “one.” Your painting speaks to the soft nature of the horse that will be yours one day. Love seeing your work again my friend.

    1. ĽAdelaide says:

      good to see you, Mary,
painting is a wonderful outlet for all types of angst, don’t you think? thanks for your lovely support, my friend💙

I think the fog is an inspired choice, which focuses attention on the wonderful shapes and textures in this piece. The horses are so freely drawn and deeply felt. The barn in the fog seems like just the right amount of “civilization” in this ghostly scene. I also like the high horizon line, and the depth this creates in the piece – it increases the hushed quality. Finally, the sun or moon seeming to be in front of the foggy horizon line makes me smile inside – it makes me wish I had thought of that… Beautiful painting!

    1. ĽAdelaide says:

      hi steve,
you can use it any time, i don’t own the idea of having the moon show up wherever it happens to happen, which is exactly what happened here. 😉

thanks so much for your kind words, as always. this is a foray of sorts into a medium i really don’t usually use much…. i like casein as i do gouache and acrylic is sort of married to caseub for me so gets to come along. haha, this comment is sounding about as crazy as possible. not my intention, i assure you! 🙂

Your horses are primal beasts – horses of the Lascaux Caves, as symbols of other Worlds.

    1. ĽAdelaide says:

they do come from a most primal place, dear susan. how are you doing, i’ve lost touch with you and everyone since going offline most of the time… xoxoxox

  10. I love how horse, and you, are calling each others name on so many levels. You will find one another in this realm as well.

    1. ĽAdelaide says:

If it is meant to be… xox

Shakespeare is great – and so are you. Get well! She is waiting for you.

    1. ĽAdelaide says:

ah, if only my body being obedient were something i could order it to do. i’m glad you liked, ann-christine!

      1. Leya says:

Don’t forget to tell me when it is possible to order!

        1. ĽAdelaide says:

You are so kind! i’ve been battling health problems lately. painting has been let slip as i’m caught up in this sudden flare. i will definitely update here, since i’ve committed with a promise i’m doing “SOMETHING”…. ah well, best laid plans, no? and i’ll drop you an email too. just not sure when of late but never say never, that’s my motto. xoxo
